My Youtube Debut?!

That is right my blog friends, I have ventured out into the mysterious, enigmatic and alluring world that is Youtube! To celebrate my 100 blogger followers (absolutely crazy stuff I know, huge thanks to everyone), I have decided to launch my Youtube-ing "career".
As I was editing this video, I was very tempted to not upload the video as when I watched the video back, I was cringing the entire way through it. However, sometimes you just have to force yourself out of your comfort zone and just do it as Youtube is quite scary. It is a far greater platform than Blogger, which is both intimidating and exciting.

This video is far from perfect. I would like to apologise for the terrible background noise - no, I do not live inside a jungle, but I do live next door to a secondary school, which just so happened to be on it's lunch break. I don't even know if this video is very interesting to watch, but hey, you have to start somewhere. I can imagine that it is only the start of something great and I feel like I have so much to learn and so much I am wanting to offer.

Lastly, if you did enjoy what you saw, please feel free to push the subscribe button! I promise you won't regret it!

Peace!

P.S. I have one thing that I am slightly perplexed about. I don't know what I should do with my old Youtube channel. I have used that channel now for about 4 years for subscribing to other Youtubers and simply being a viewer. I want to use my "ScatterrBrained" Youtube channel as my "professional" one, but I don't want to stop using my other channel, where I have over 200 subscriptions as it would be a pain in the behind if I were to resubscribe to everyone.
P.P.S. I have wasted numerous hours today trying to publish and upload this video. I thought blogging was time consuming, but making Youtube videos is on a whole other level.
P.P.S. I filmed this video in super cool HD, but all the uploading has made it not HD. :(
P.P.P.S. Yes, I realise the ending is rather strange.

Trousers - Gasp!

Photobucket
Earrings - Accessorize, necklace and belt- Topshop, top - Topshop via a charity shop, trousers - Mum's old trousers, shoes - M&S

Argh, cropping fail. Also it randomly got way sunnier, so please exuse the over-exposure
Photobucket
This outfit is pretty different to how I usually dress as it is pretty smart and sophisticated: two words that I would never associate with my fashion sense usually. I can see this as a great sixth form outfit with a fitted/cropped blazer and a bright coloured sactual. Which reminds me, I really need to start considering what I'm going to wear to sixth form as I don't have any smart clothes! (Side note: can really really imagine me as a 6th former? I think not.)

I really like this embroided/weird mesh material top - I got it from a charity shop for like a pound. I do much prefer the overall look of the outfit without the brown vest, but since I could not find a nude vest, it had to do, as I really don't like wearing low cut tops

These trousers are another item of clothing in my wardrobe that are really neglected. They have a fantastic cut and are from a heavy wool material, so it feels very high quality, but I never wear them for a few reasons:
  1. I live in leggings and shorts.
  2. My legs are super short, so it's hard to find trousers that don't make me legs look even shorter.
  3. I hardly ever wear any trousers in a peg-leg shape or in fact trousers generally as I'm sort of self conscious of my mahoosive bottom.
  4. These trouser's waist band is absolutely tiny! They have a 25 inch waist and since I'm normally 26-27, it is quite a squeeze. I can only wear these trousers when I've not eaten a meal for at least 2 hours. My mum owned these trousers just before she was pregnant with me, so it really has shocked me that she was really that thin in the past.
See you tomorrow (hopefully!)

P.S. I will improve my photography soon, but recently I have just been trying out different sizes/formats of pictues and I think I will stick to this sort of size.
P.P.S. Yay, you can finally see the flowers in my garden!

Crazy Lady

Photobucket
Hat - not sure, silver chocker necklace - Topshop, sheer asymmetrical shirt - Punkyfish - high-waisted shorts - H&M, socks - Primark, shoes - China, red lip - Sleek pout paint
The reason why this post is called "Crazy Lady" is because that is probably what my neighbours all think I am, as I took all today's pictures whilst it was absolutely pouring it down with rain. You probably can't tell from the images, but it was super wet (that's what she said! - sorry, that was uncalled for.) and also pretty cold. But hey, that has not stopped me in the past when it has come to taking outfit pictures and it did not stop me today. Plus I find prancing around in a sleeves shirt and shorts quite invigorating and refreshing.

I put this outfit together mainly because of the shoes. I bought these double-soled platform converse-lookalike shoes in China last year and they are probably my most neglected shoes, as I never seem to wear them out. This is because I'm not into the whole "sporty" sort of look as it's not really my style. However, I do remember the first time I ever wore them. It was to quite a big house party, and I pretty much spent the entire night in a garden, so needless to say, they were super muddy by the end, but I prefer the worn look. How some people can retain their trainers white than a black man's smile will always remain a mystery to me.
I would just like to add, I love the necklace above, as it reminds me of a dog collar when I wear it with a black shirt, which reminds me of the Vicar of Dibley. That in turn reminds me of Jessie J, who has the shiniest hair in history, looks like one of my close friends and is a crazy lady, like me.
I kind of went off on a tangent on a few points as I'm in a weird mood, but I hope you enjoyed this post,

Tah,

Rebecca x

P.S. FUN FACT OF THE DAY NUMBER 1: I bet you didn't realise that even though my trainers are American flag design, but with reverse colours - the stripes are blue and stars are red when it should be the other way round.
P.P.S. FUN FACT OF THE DAY NUMBER 2: This is first post I have ever done where I have written it in advance and scheduled it to go live, as I have decided to stop being lazy, and start posting regularly! I am actually in London today, but because I love you guys so much, I have prepared this post in advanced. I suppose that makes me a "proper" blogger now? Yipee!
P.P.S. POST EDIT - turns out it didn't actually work, so I'm posting it again now, when I've come home from London.

Summer Solstice

Photobucket
Top - China, belt - charity shop, high-waisted shorts - H&M, socks - Primark, fringed boots  - New Look, bag - China, lippy - Sleek Pout Polish
Photobucket
Please excuse my horrible hair - I couldn't be bothered to wait for my hair to dry, so I just took these pictures while it was still wet.
The title of this post refers to the fact that it is the longest day of the year today. The day of the summer solstice is always a sad one, as it means that days are only going to get shorter from now till the end of the year.

Even though it is the longest day of the year, in the UK, that does not equate to good weather. As I was walking to the dentist this morning, there were so many snails on the floor which I hate as I always fear that I will step on one. (POST EDIT: Just like to say just as I published this post, I went outside to take out the rubbish and ironically stepped on a snail. Eurgh! Just the thought of it is putrid, but at least it wasn't a slug.)This was because it was strangely humid, which is something that it quite rare for the UK. Annoyingly, it meant that it would keep starting to rain, and then stopping. This meant I had to take these pictures by awkwardly positioning my camera in the door way, so it wouldn't get wet, restricting my positioning. This was a shame as my garden is actually quite pretty at the moment with lots of flowers and I wanted to share them with you (I sound like an old lady already!).

However, one positive of the weather is that it reminds me of my holiday to China last year when I went to Chengdu, where super humid days are common. That thought handily brings us back to this outfit as I love how most of the statement items (top and bag) are souvenirs from my travels. I love the ethnic/tribal vibe it has, as well as the obvious sentimental value.

Ciao for now!

Rebecca x

P.S. I'm super, super, super, terribly sorry that I have been pretty MIA from the blogging world and not posting as regularly as possible. This is because I currently don't have access to the laptop I usually use for my posts, so I have to use this other laptop, which is awful. This means that it is near impossible to post as it is too laggy and slow to edit pictures, upload then, embed them etc. You wouldn't think that it would require so much technology to get one of these posts out there, but it really does. I have taken the pictures to quite a few outfit posts, but I just can't edit them into a post with this load of junk. Today I have used my mum's laptop, but I rarely have the opportunity to use it.
P.P.S. This is mega frustrating as currently, I do actually have time to post as I HAVE FINISHED MY GCSEs, HALLELUJAH!
P.P.P.S.  On a more positive note, I am thinking of taking my blog to the next level by incorporating video into my posts and venturing into the scary world of Youtube. In my personal blog (Peaabrained) I have expressed my love for the website, and I really want to enhance my blog with multimedia and improve the ScatterrBrained experience. I am thinking of perhaps recording my outfit of the days to supplement the pictures that I already post on this blog, but of course, at the moment, this is only just a dream as I can't even imagine how tough editing a video is going to be if I can't even construct a simple post on this piece of ****.
P.P.P.P.S. Okay, I know I said I'd keep my ramble on PeaaBrained, but I just thought I owed you guys an explanation about where I've been of lately.

Spaced out

Photobucket
Sparkly beanie - Krisp, cosmic top and shorts- Hype, socks and tights - Primark, boots - Doc Martens
Photobucket
I have no idea why there is a pixel gap in this photography - it wasn't there when I was editing!
I took half of these pictures with this top untucked but I have decided that I prefer it tucked in. Yup - it's another galaxy/nebula/cosmic print top. This time it's sparkly - yay. I decided to match it with a beanie with lots of rhinestone gems on it. Some may say it's tacky and completely weather inappropriate considering its suppose to be the middle of summer, but I like it and I thought it went well with the outfit. Also, my hair was a complete mess and it's a good way of hiding that fact.
Photobucket
Here is a close up of the jewellery. I'm wearing my silver chain from this haul, as well as a gold spiky bracelet from Topshop.
Photobucket
And here is another close of some other jewellery you may not have noticed. On the right is my trusty Winnie the Pooh catch and this hamsa hand bracelet I found lying round the house! On the left is the hair wrap I did yesterday! It was a bit of a fail, as I started off with 4 colours, but I ran out of thread about half way down the length of my hair. Thus, where the wrap randomly gets wider is where I had to join another two strands to the wrap so it was long enough. I followed this tutorial by Sara from WAISTE and it was surprisingly easily, so I recommend everyone to try it out.

Oh yeah, I wrote a post on my second blog, PeaaBrained, about my views on the fashion blogging community so far. I thought I might as well include it in this post too, since this is where all me readers are.

"This month I went full storm ahead with persuing my ScatterrBrained blog in a more fashion related direction. Here are the things I like and dislike about the fashion blogging community

Likes
  1. The fact that it is a community.
    1.  Some people really do leave some thoughtful comments and it makes me realise that all this time I've spent faffing round with editing/photography etc. is actually worthwhile and some people actually like it.
  2. The fact that some ridiculously gorgeous people are following my blog!
    1. I find it really flattering that some of my followers on my ScatterrBrained blog have far superior/better style than me, and the fact that they actually, stupidly chose to spend time reading my posts when they are so much more stylish than me is amazing.
  3. The fact that I'm global!
    1. I have readers from all over the weird its crazy! I'm almost as global as MJBeats, but unfortunately I don't have any readers from Chad! (CGS joke)
Dislikes
  1. The fact that I feel like I waste my life "proving I'm not a robot".
    1. It's actually quite ridiculous - sometimes the words they come up with are so hard to read, I can't even decipher them!"

If I were a Ballerina

Photobucket
Spiked headband - Topshop, necklaces, Claire's and H&M, top and cardigans - both passed down from my mum, skirt - Topshop, boots - Doc Martens
Photobucket Before you guys say anything, yes I do realise I look like a dick in these pictures - I really do pull such awkward poses. However, I couldn't be bothered to take the pictures again, so yeah.

I love this top, not only because of the pattern, but I also love the fact that it is velvet, which is possibly my all time favourite material. Also, I really should've worn some thinner tights, rather than my thick thermal leggings that I wear all year round as I hate having cold legs, but again, I'm lazy.

Just like to apologise again for the changing contrast and colours in the pictures. This time it wasn't my fault as the sun was ducking in and out of clouds.
Photobucket
My mum thinks I look like the Statue of Liberty - WIN.
Wow I'm so proud of myself - two outfit posts in two days. Hopefully you will see another post on this blog, or PeaaBrained tomorrow!

Rebecca x
P.S. No, your eyes are not deceiving you - my pictures aren't actually blurry for once! I have realised that uploading the images straight to Blogger has reduced the quality of them, so now I'm uploading them to Photobucket, then embedding.
P.P.S. I have just done a hair wrap a la Sara Louise from Waiste, who is one of my favourite bloggers. Will post a picture tomorrow!

Spitalfields and Brick Lane Haul and a Special Announcement

Shirt - This Shop Rocks in Brick Lane, satin trousers - Cheap Monday, shoes - New Look, necklace - Spitalfields
Here are the three items that I bought when I went to Spitalfields, Camden and Brick Lane last Thursday!

It's not very often that I find clothes that I literally love, and this shirt has to be one of them. I bought it from a vintage store called "This Shop Rocks" on Brick Lane and when I tried it on, I knew it was for me. It's from the 1960s and only £15! What initially drew me in was fact that the collar is very long and of course the awesome pattern. However, when I tried it on, it fit perfectly which is rare for me. I also love this shirt as its quite warm and very versatile - I can wear it like this as a shirt, not tied in a knot as a dress, and its even thick enough to wear it as a sort of shirt blazer.  I guarantee this shirt will feature in more future outfit posts and I have decided that this is my joint favourite shirt along with this one.
I also bought these two necklaces too, both from Spitalfields market for £1 each! I really wanted a chunky chain so I'm glad I came across the one on the right. As for the one on the right, I have decided that it is my favourite necklace of all time - I was actually going to buy one similar to it from River Island for an extorionate price, so I'm so glad I found it too. An interesting fact about the one on the left is that says that it was made in Western Germany, meaning that it is also a vintage item as my limited historic knowledge tells me that Western Germany only existed from the 50s through to the 80s. Cool stuff.

For a more (extremely) detailed account of that day, check out my first ever blog post on my second blog, PeaaBrained!

Yes, that's right, PeaaBrained has finally launched (insert fanfair)
Yes, thank you very much for the 15 of you who voted on my poll - I have finally decided to make my second blog! I am super proud of my header and the format of my second blog - I think I like it even better than this blog! I spent a ridiculous amount of time arranging the peas to make this header, especially because I used frozen peas so they would keep rolling around everywhere, but hey, that's the whole point of study leave right?

Anyway, I've made this second blog, so people who only follow me to see picture of me pulling awkward faces whilst prancing around my garden aren't innondated/bombarded with my rambly, rambly life/personal posts. However, if you are interested in all that jazz, then head over and why not follow it? We come in peas!

Bye!

Rebecca x

P.S. Please excuse the lack of consistancy in the images today. I took the photographs on this Canon Powershot instead of the usual Nikon and I used an auto setting rather than program setting, so the settings kept changing!
P.P.S I am also very sorry for the lack of posts - I feel like a terrible blogger! However, now I am attempting to blog again every day again, on either blogs, so please follow if you wish to stay tuned!

Colour Restore Deep Red for Redheads Review - How to Maintain Red Ombré Hair

Where did I buy it and how much was it?
I bought this tube of Colour Restore Deep Red from Boots for £11.99 for 100ml of product and a pair of gloves & instructions.
What does it claim?
"General washing, styling, heat and sun damage can deplete the tone and vibrancy of an artificial colour. The red artificial permanent molecule is so small it’s prone to flushing easily from the hair leaving behind a dull shade.
  • Colour Restore Red Pigment Hair Infusion toner developed by Scott Cornwall replenishes and returns hair colour to its former glory without the need to use a peroxide or ammonia based colourant
  • Simple to use, just rinse through (like a shampoo) to maintain tone or leave in for up to 25 minutes for deeper tonal results.
  • Contains no ammonia, no peroxide, no harsh chemicals.
  • Restores and replenished red tones, adds a deeper ‘conker’ effect to mid blondes or brunettes.
  • Creates vibrant lowlight results in highlighted hair.
  • Can be used immediately after perming, colour removal, straightening or bleaching"
Find more information on the Colour Restore website.
Why did I buy it?
I bought this product because about half a year ago now, I dyed the tips of my hair red using L'oreal Majicontrast (I will write a proper review of this product sometime I promise), which has lasted a very long time, considering red hair dye is notorious for fading rapidly. However, my hair has finally reached a stage where whenever I wash my hair normally, no more red hair dye is coming out of my hair - i.e. all the dye has faded out of my hair. My hair is now a gingery/reddish/brown colour and I really want to restore the vividness of when I first dyed the bottom of my hair red, without having to damage my hair with further use of peroxide or ammonium.
Check out this post I wrote where I way up the pros and cons of using different methods to do this: "A Hairy Dilemma".
Therefore, when I saw this in my local boots, it seemed like the perfect product just to "top up" my hair colour with minimal damage.
What did I do?
N.B. This is what I decided to do, not what was instructed on the instructions.
  1. TEST: First test a small amount of the product by putting a spot of it behind your ear and leaving it for 48 hours to see if you react to it. I was very naughty and didn't do this, but I advise everyone to do this as it's better to be safe than sorry! I should really practise what I preach...
  2. WASH: I washed my hair with a clarifying/clear shampoo because using a cream shampoo can leave a residue onto the hair, which will prevent Colour Restore from penetrating into the hair (lol).
  3. DRY: I lightly towel dried my hair.
  4. PROTECTION: I put a plastic bag over my shoulders and put some plastic gloves on.
  5. MIX: I mixed 1 splodge conditioner with 1 splodge Colour Restore Deep Red
    1. This was so that this process would condition my hair whilst dying it too.

  1. COMB: I combed the mixture through the ends of my hair for about 5 minutes.
  2. LEAVE: I left the mixture in my hair for 20 minutes
  3. RINSE: I rinsed the ends of my hair with cold water until all the conditioner was out of my hair, NOT when all the Colour Restore was out.
    1. If I were to rinse all the Colour Restore out of my hair, my hair would be back to the colour at the start, so don't do this!
  4. DRY: I then towel dried my hair with a dark coloured towel, otherwise it would've been stained bright red.
How does it work?
In order to understand how this product works, I think it's time to dissect the ingredients and their properties - I'm really fascinated by the science behind everything so yeah.
N.B. Please bare in mind that I am a 15 year old girl, thus my chemistry knowledge is confined to the  GCSE syllabus and whatever resources I can find on the Internet, so please excuse me if I get something wrong. I may not be 100% scientifically correct, but I'll try to express things in layman's terms.
  • Aqua
    • This is water and the reason that it is used is pretty obvious.
  • Cetearyl Alcohol
    • This is fatty alcohol used to thicken the emulsion and to keep it from separating. It also acts as a foaming agent, as well as having emollient properties which leave the hair soft and smooth.
  • Cetrimonium Chloride
    • This is a conditioning agent used as a softening, detangling and anti-static agent for hair care products.
~BONUS NUGGET OF KNOWLEDGE~
In dry conditions, hair becomes "static" as each hair becomes statically charged with the same charge, so they repel from each other and thus appear to stand on end. Cetrimonium Chloride carries a positive charge that attracts them to the slightly negatively charged skin and hair proteins, preventing this from happening, thus making the hair smoother and more sleek.
  • Triethanolamine
    • This is a strong alkaline substance, which is used to adjust the pH of the product and a surfactant. This basically means it helps emulsion formation by reducing surface tension of the substances, enabling water and oil-soluble ingredients to mix.
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone
    • This is a preservative and a biocide (prevents biological infestation such as harmful microorganisms from growing). It is also associated with allergic reactions, so remember to do your skin test!
  • Parfum (fragrance)
    • This is so that the product doesn't smell too bad (pretty obvious).
  • Basic Yellow 87 and Basic Red 51
    • This is what actually gives the colour, not all the other ingredients listed above.
  • Magnesium Chloride and Magnesium Nitrate
    • I honestly have NO idea what these two salts are for in this product, even after research. Anyone care to enlighten me?
Advantages?
From ginger straw to lushious red locks!
  • The colour!
    • As you can probably can't see from the pictures below since my camera seems to make my hair look super red, regardless of what colour it is, I was pleasantly surprised by the results for this product.
    • My hair went from a gingery-brown to almost the same colour as when I first dyed it: a true conker/mahogany red (yay hardwoods)
  • The condition my hair was left it!
    • Because I mixed in lots of conditioner with the Colour Restore, this process also helped to soften my hair and make it more shiny as it was deep conditioning as well as dying. I used a normal conditioner to mix with the CR, but I imagine that if a deep conditioning masque was used, it would be even more beneficial to the hair
    • Because no hydrogen peroxide or ammonium was used in this process, there was no damage created - there were only benefits! As you can see from the ingredients list analysis, there are no products that actually affect the hair itself.
  • The little amount needed
    • As you can probably see from the image above, I used very little product when restoring my hair colour, so I can imagine this 100ml tube lasting a good while.
    • Since I diluted the CR further with conditioner, it meant even less was used.
Disadvantages?
  • The price
    • This cost £11.99, which could be seen as alot, compared to traditional dyes. However, bare in mind that only a small amount of product is required, so perhaps this isn't too bad value for money.
  • The mess
    • Red hair dye is also being notorious for being super, super, super messy and this stuff is no exception! This will stain hands, towels, tiles, clothes if you get it anywhere, so you must be extra careful when using this product, otherwise it will look like there has been some sort of bloody massacre.
Would I repurchase?
Oh yes! Once you have bleached/dyed your hair for the first time to lighten it, I reckon you could just keep buying this product to "top up" your hair colour as it fades. Since I use so little, I think this tube will last for a long time, thus justifying the price. I have no idea about the longevity of the colour produced as I only used this product for the first time one day ago, but I have a good feeling about this (I will update this once I wash my hair again).

I think this product works in pretty much the same way as a semi-permanent dye, so if you have light hair (medium brown or lighter), this would also be a good way of dying your hair a bright red colour!

ScatterrBrained rating?
Four and a half brains out of five!
Keep calm and have good hair,

Rebecca x

P.S. Hello everyone, what do you guys think of this new style of review? I have ALOT to talking about regarding hair dying, and I was wondering if this was too long already or if you guys would be willing to read my ramble? Was this too sciencey, or you guys interested? Please comment below your opinions, as in the end, this blog is for you guys to read. :)
P.P.S. I've really gotten out of the habit of blogging regularly, so sorry! I have so many posts that I want to write, but I never seem to have time. :(
P.P.P.S. There is still time to vote for your favourite name for my second blog. Go to the top right of this page to vote!

Prancing in the Garden

Hey guys, just before we begin this post, I'd just like to mention to everyone that I'm going to start a second personal blog, which is going to be mostly me writing about my life and more random posts, so I can focus this blog on being more fashion related. However, I am not too sure what to called it - it is either between JustAPeaBrain or PeaaBrained (because just PeaBrained was already taken!). Thus, I'm going to let it be down to you guys - my loyal readers - to decide. Scroll to the bottom of the page Look to the right and feel free to vote for your favourite name, or if you think you have a better suggestion, then just put it in the comments section.
Top - DIY, dungarees - H&M kids section, tights - Primark, headband - Primark,  sandals - M&S
I'm not really that fond of this outfit, but I thought I may as well include these pictures anyway. I took these back when the weather wasn't in single figures and I could actually wear short sleeves without freezing.

When I was looking back at these images, I realised that these images are pretty much identical to this photo shoot I did with my friend MB last year (I didn't include her in these images as I wasn't sure if she wanted to be included). I can't believe how similar I look in these pictures - I really haven't changed that much over this year. The only real difference is that my hair is now much longer, much more damaged and the grass is greener. I might put some more pictures up of that day in a later post.
And here is some random photography I did. Enjoy!

Make Peace Not War

Leggings and shoes - New Look, hat - pound shop, top - mum's, necklaces - Claire's and random
Hello! I bought these leggings thinking that they were the yin yang leggings, but instead they were peace signs. I have no idea how I managed to make that mistake, but why not have a little 80s influence to a mostly 90s inspired outfit. My dad asked me why I had a load of Mercedes-Benz logos on my leggings, oh dear.

Please excuse my super puffy and anxious-looking face. Basically, my dad is not happy with the fact that I am using his camera as I apparently broke the remote for it, so I had to sneakily take these pictures behind his back.  Thus I ended up placing some clip-art over my mug as the faces I was pulling were quite grotesque. I got slightly carried away with the first image, so please excuse my randomness. I thought I might put some yinyangs around the second photograph to compensate for a lack of them on my legs.

Also, you may notice that because I don't have a good crop top to go with this outfit, I simply just tied a hair band to shorten the top. If you look closely at these images, you may find that I FINALLY have a choker necklace! I've literally searched high and low for this necklace and I finally found one in Claire's Accessories. I'm just so happy and easily pleased.

Anyway, I now only have 4 exams left and I currently have a week's break for half term, which is pretty exciting! Look forward to more frequent posts this half term, as I am planning a few more outfits, a monthly round up and some other more wordy posts.

PEACE!
